CINCH Mockup

Building Inclusive Pathways for Children's Health Advocacy

CINCH is a coalition that has united the Hampton Roads community for over 30 years to protect and improve children’s health through collaborative advocacy and evidence-based programs.

With hundreds of members and partners from diverse professional backgrounds, they work to eliminate health disparities and ensure equitable access to resources for all families in the Hampton Roads area.

THE CHALLENGE

An Outdated Website Wasn’t Telling the Right Story

CINCH’s website was severely outdated — nearly five years behind current standards — with a templated look that offered minimal backend editing capabilities for their team.

The site lacked any real visual identity, making it feel generic and failing to reflect the collaborative, community-driven nature of their work.

Missing pages for different audiences made it unclear how various stakeholders could get involved, while the navigation structure didn’t effectively guide visitors to relevant information about their programs and impact.

CORE QUESTIONS

What We Set Out to Solve

The core questions we tackled for this project included:

How do you modernize a severely outdated coalition website while creating clear pathways for diverse community members to understand and engage with children’s health advocacy work?

Our Process

Building Pathways for Every Audience

Our work began with the Nonprofit Beacon assessment to understand CINCH’s position within the children’s health advocacy landscape and identify their unique strengths after three decades of community leadership.

Based on three strategic workshops with the CINCH team, we streamlined the navigation structure and built out dedicated pages for all key audiences that had been lacking — including families, healthcare professionals, advocates, and community partners. The messaging was refined to align with CINCH’s strategic direction and mandate from their university sponsors, creating clearer communication about their role in the community.

Diverse photography was added throughout the site to better reflect the multicultural community they serve in Hampton Roads.

Outcomes

Clear Pathways, Stronger Coalition

The transformed website now provides a modern, professional platform that clearly communicates CINCH’s collaborative approach to children’s health advocacy.

Streamlined navigation and audience-specific pages make it easy for different community members to understand how they can get involved in the coalition’s work. A custom resource library with filters and content organization now enables health professionals to quickly find specific resources to share with families and colleagues.

The addition of diverse imagery and refined messaging better reflects both the community they serve and their strategic direction, positioning CINCH as the established leader in children’s health advocacy they’ve been for three decades.
